This is a tribute to the Southern gospel singing I grew up with. The harmonies were ingrained in my earliest memories, from hearing my father and his group, The King's Men, practicing or singing in concert, and from all the Statesmen Quartet, Blackwood Brothers and Weatherfords music constantly on the turntable. The message is, of course, somewhat altered, but René's partner Sima summed it up eloquently : « David has the gift of blending philosophy with humour and wisdom in such a unique, sweet and down to earth style... »

Lyrics

Verse 1
A snowflake melting’ on the tip of my tongue
(Some of the Words of God)
My vinyl collection of Neil Young
(Some of the Words of God)

Chorus
They’re Some of the Words of God, yes
Some of the words of God
Lettin’ us know that there’s so much more
Than this troublesome road we’ve trod
Some of the Words of God, yes
Some of the Words of God
I respect and I believe
They’re some of the Words of God

Verse 2
The Talmud, Kojiki and the Heavenly Cow
(Some of the Words of God)
Anything’ll put you in the Here and Now
(Some of the Words of God)

(Chorus repeat)

Bridge
Every night after supper, Daddy would read from the family Bible
The One and Only Word of God he’d say, as if it were
Undeniable (Well!)

Verse 3
A magic mushroom or a shot of whiskey
(Some of the Words of God)
Einstein’s Theory of Relativity
(Some of the Words of God)

Final Chorus
They’re some of the Words of God, yes
Some of the words of God
Lettin’ us know that there’s a whole lot more
Than this troublesome road we’ve trod
Some of the words of God, yes
Some of the words of God
I respect and I believe
They’re some of the words of God

I respect and I believe
They’re some of the words of God
